Sabbir Ahmed Khan(Biju) Office: +8801713040814/ Mobile: +8801711323215 Personal Statement: Khan was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He began dancing and trained in the classical South Asian dance form of Kathak at the age of 14.Surangmma Sangeet Academy. He studied with Guru Shibli Mohummad & Guru Ashimbandhu bhattacharya later becoming his disciple. He began his stage career in the kaathak dance festival 1991. I have gone through it all. Dancing like this was my last chance to dance, the excitement and euphoria; then realizing that this was not what I wanted; giving it all up in despair; and finally coming back full circle to search for other ways of moving, because dance gives me the sense of fulfillment which I do not find elsewhere. I am still trying to understand why it does so. Please summarize your past experience as a dancer/choreographer 1. Surangama, Dhaka: 1989-96; Kathak, Bharatanatyam and Folk 2. Aerial Dance by Shubhash Behra (Kolkata, India) 6. Contemporary Dance by Akram Khan (London, UK) 7. Kalaripayettu by Kajal Hazra. 8. Dance in Resonance by Samir Akika, thomas leeman, helen(Germany) 9.Cloud Gate dance company(Taiwan) 10.Korea National Contemporary Dance Company(KNCDC). 11.Spetrem dance Company By Donald Byrd(USA) 12.Empowering youth leadership through the performing arts in (USA) Workshops Conducted: 1. Feminist Dance Workshops all over Bangladesh. 2. Lathikhela Workshops in Dhaka 3. Workshop for Children with Special Needs 4. Workshop for Street Children My last dance/choreographer project : I work in a Dance Studio where we do several projects simultaneously - projects for sustenance i.e commercial shows, large productions which the studio has taken up etc. However, I recently worked within the boundaries of the studio's work with Street Children and with Female Farmers and was amazed to see how untrained bodies responded to discipline and how, on the other hand, trained bodies had to put in a lot of effort to 'mingle' with the crowd. Though I was unable to use my ideas within the format of the production, it was exciting to put together a presentation with such a diverse group. Central idea in one sentence: I would like to explore 'movement' seen out of context
